TECHNOLOGY that doesn't choose between STRENGTH and FUTURE.
In the context of corporate policy, management has chosen to integrate environmental sustainability criteria into design and production processes. This journey led to Environmental Management System Certification UNI EN ISO 14001:2015 n. 62916 (CSQA - IQNet), which the company has held since 2020, for the control and optimization of consumption and environmental impacts.
The use of structural materials based on ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) allows replacing traditional high-tenacity yarns in carbon and aramids, overcoming the limits of fragility, vulnerability, and degradation caused by environmental factors typical of such materials. On these foundations, our patented
Multi Micro Structure technology was born (see "
Technology"), which offers durable and reliable laminates, characterized by measurable environmental impact and designed to facilitate
end-of-life recovery.
The main structure in Solid Stripes (STR) in UHMWPE presents exceptional characteristics: high tensile modulus, resistance to climatic agents, no brittle transition at low temperatures, and long life. The carbon footprint of UHMWPE production is significantly lower compared to carbon and aramid fibers (from 1/20 to 1/12 according to technical literature data). The material is recyclable at end of life through the polyethylene industrial supply chain, subject to the availability of specialized facilities and proper management of the recovery process.
Thanks to these materials and related know-how, the weight of sails is 30% to 50% lower than other laminate or traditional technologies, with consequent reduction of inertial stresses in navigation, weights on boats, and volume of materials involved in both production and end of life.
We believe that technological development must integrate environmental considerations throughout the entire product life cycle.
The company is part of the Polieco consortium (National Consortium for the recycling of polyethylene goods waste) with which it has developed experimentation and testing activities for recycling processes. Together with OneSails International, it signed a memorandum of understanding in 2020 for the feasibility study regarding life cycle completion and organization of collection of decommissioned sails destined for recovery.
Verified Environmental Assertion: Sail membranes in Multi Micro Structure technology are designed for disassembly and material recovery at end of life. The self-declared environmental assertion regarding recyclability is verified and certified as compliant with UNI EN ISO 14021:2021 standard by CSQA entity.
